“Marriage is a mosaic you build with your spouse. Millions of tiny moments that create your love story.” - Jennifer Smith
*Note: This is going to be an extremely long post, but I'm trying to catch up!!!
August - December 2013
During the summer we ended up moving to a different apartment. Now we are saving some money AND we get AC. Our previous apartment did not have AC - it got pretty toasty, let me tell you.
We took another short trip down to California and got to celebrate my little brother's birthday. I was so happy to be there for that.
We always see this place off the freeway, and we finally gave in. Something about Alien Jerky just sounded so cool! (Can you tell it was a long drive?) |
| Ryan's birthday. He was one happy boy. :) |
Jordan likes to point out how slowly I eat ice cream. His is on the left, mine is on the right -
but I'm sure you could have guessed that. |
In August, Jordan's little sister Shaylee got married! It was such a beautiful day and they are so cute together!
| Caity and Johnny love their Uncle Jordan. |
| Shaylee and her Grandpa. I love this picture. |
Johnny Calhoun is so stinkin' cute!
On September 19, we wanted to get more free food, so we dressed up like pirates and we each got a free dozen donuts at Krispy Kreme.
Yep, I did his makeup. Not the best, but not bad, right?
| We went to our first BYU Football game together. Finally! |
We even went to BYU Homecoming!
| And we got to enjoy it with these cool kids - Chad and Kylie. |
In October we got to go to Lagoon with Chad and Kylie. It was during Lagoon's Halloween stuff, so we got to go on rides AND go through haunted places. Jordan and I were both born in Utah and spent about 7-8 years each growing up in Utah. So the last time Jordan or I had been to Lagoon was when we were about 7 or 8 years old. It was so fun to relive some childhood experiences.
| This was the first amusement park and the first roller coaster we had been on together since we'd known each other. |
| We had so much fun going on all the rides we could. |
| Jordan was very proud of himself because he was always afraid to go on this ride when he was little. |
| The boys thought it would be fun to go on a water ride, but it was way too cold for me and Kylie. Unfortunately these boys talked us into going on Lagoon's log ride and Kylie got completely soaked! I felt so bad! |
| Jordan and I had so much fun checking out all the kiddie rides we went on as kids. It was fun to tell each other stories that we only remembered once we were at Lagoon. |
| As you can tell, Jordan really enjoyed the bumper cars. :) |
Later in the fall we drove through the Alpine Loop behind Mount Timpanogos. The colors were so beautiful.

Jordan is a very hard person to surprise, but he always does little things to surprise me. So for his birthday last November, I really wanted to surprise him. Jordan loves sushi but I usually get sick, so he doesn't get to eat it very often. I decided to take him somewhere he could get sushi and have a fun birthday. After getting some recommendations, I decided on Benihana.
My parents were going to be in town for my cousin's wedding, and Jordan's parents live 45 minutes away from Benihana, so I decided to have a surprise dinner there with our families. I organized everything with my parents and his (without Jordan knowing!) and everything was set. I was so nervous that Jordan would find out somehow, but he never did.
The morning of Jordan's birthday, we went to my cousin's wedding. It was so nice. Since my cousin's wedding and Benihana was in Salt Lake, we just spent the rest of the day hanging out there. We spent a good amount of time at Temple Square. Jordan loves to go to Temple Square to visit the missionaries he taught in the MTC. We found a few of them and got to chat with them shortly.
After Temple Square we headed for Benihana. We parked along the street and before we got out of the car, Jordan noticed another car parking a few cars in front of us. "Whoa, that looked just like my dad! Did you see that?" I knew that it was his dad, and so I tried to get him out of the car, and down the street as quickly as possible in hopes he wouldn't see them again. I was literally holding his arm and dragging him down the street.
When we got near his dad's car, Jordan slowed down and just stared! I was trying desperately to keep walking. I looked in the car and saw Jordan's family, desperately trying to hide their faces. Eventually Jordan stopped walking and just continued to stare! I'm glad it really was his family, or else it would have been VERY awkward.
After staring for like 30 seconds, Jordan realized, "Oh my gosh! That's my family!" I thought the jig was up, so I said, "Surprise!" Jordan looked really confused. He looked back at his family and said, "What are you guys doing here?" They also said "Surprise!" Jordan was still confused. I finally had to explain that his family was here to have dinner with us. He was so excited and was surprised again when we walked inside and saw my parents. I finally surprised Jordan!
| Everyone who was at dinner except my mom, who was taking the picture. |
| Jordan wanted to be funny and took a HUGE gasp of air before he blew out his candle... |
| ... but the joke was on him because his huge gasp of air made his candle go out before he could blow it! |
| Jordan loves pumpkin pie and always has it for his birthday since it's so close to Thanksgiving. Notice how resourceful he is without a pie server. |
Soon after Jordan's birthday came Thanksgiving. And it was my family's turn, so we drove down to California for a few days.
| You can't really tell, but we're standing by the backside of a little waterfall. |
Our original plan was to drive back to Utah the day after Thanksgiving so we could go to a friend's wedding. Unfortunately, those plans were foiled. About an hour after eating our Thanksgiving dinner, I was not feeling well. It was getting worse every minute. I went to my room to go lay down, and by the time I got there, I could barely move. I had some serious pain in my back. I was scared something was wrong with my kidneys (I had a UTI earlier that year that started to infect my kidneys).
The pain was terrible! So Jordan took me to urgent care. Since it was Thanksgiving almost everywhere was closed! We drove around for a half hour or so until we finally found a place that was open. I was so embarrassed after I saw the doctor and she told me what was wrong. She said that I was just having really bad muscle spams in my back and that I needed to lay still and apply heat to my back.
Seriously? Muscle Spams? I was such a wimp!!! I felt bad about all the trouble I caused everyone (especially because we didn't make it to our friend's wedding). On the flip side, I was glad I didn't have a serious health issue. Jordan was so patient and took great care of me. Also, the doctor prescribed me some nice painkillers - those helped a lot.
Of course when we came back to Utah, it snowed. A LOT!
| I love walking to school in the snow... said no one ever. |
| On the other hand, Jordan does love jumping into the snow. |
| Notice how he is only wearing a white shirt and a thin jacket. Crazy boy! I wear like 20 layers! |
| I've never seen a meme that captures my thoughts so accurately. |
