Adventure #21: Conference Weekend

"A testimony of the hope of redemption is something which cannot be measured or counted. Jesus Christ is the source of that hope." - Elder Boyd K. Packer

October 3-5, 2014

General Conference weekend was great! We kicked off the weekend by going to a free Neon Trees Concert on the streets of Provo with Shaylee and Kevin. There were TONS of people there, but we still got to be really close to the stage (we took the picture after we started to walk away). We even got some gelato afterwards. When we got home we packed up some clothes and headed to Jordan's parent's house for the rest of the weekend.

In between sessions on Saturday, we drove down the road to a local farmer's market and got some fresh fruits and veggies (which we never got to eat because we left them at Jordan's parent's house). I'm sure they were delicious. lol  The next picture is a picture we took of Spencer looking at Coke cans. This is a big no-no because Forrest (who is practically family) works for Pepsi. We just thought it was funny.

Okay, okay. we actually kind of staged this picture. We asked Spencer to find a certain name on a Coke can so we could take a picture of him "red-handed."

Kevin also had fun with William pulling on his face.

I don't remember very much else of what we did with family that weekend, but I do remember General Conference. One of my favorite talks was from Elder D. Todd Christofferson. He spoke about agency and God's Law. It's a great talk, and if you want to watch it or read it, click here.  There was something he said that especially stuck out to me. He said that some people may think, “I shouldn’t be forced to believe something is true that I don’t like.” He goes on to say, "But that does not change reality. Resenting the law of gravity won’t keep a person from falling if he steps off a cliff. The same is true for eternal law and justice."

I don't know why that stuck with me, but I think it helped me to have a better perspective on God's commandments. It helps me to understand the commandments more fully so that I can help other people understand what I have learned (especially my future children). Even if there is a commandment that we don't understand or may even resent, it doesn't change God's law or the consequence for disobeying it. It helps me to get over petty thoughts that sometimes prevent me from obeying the commandments with a happy heart. I'm not a rebel or anything, but I'm am VERY far from perfect and I am just trying my best to improve, little by little.

After General Conference was over, we drove back to Provo to go to a devotional at the MTC. Now that was amazing, too! Our friend's dad spoke and we got to sit with all the missionaries! The spirit was so strong and we learned so much about missionary work. We have been trying to take advantage of any missionary opportunity we have in Provo, but there haven't been very many. We are excited to have the opportunity to live in other places and take advantage of the missionary work awaiting us there.
