August 2015
Jordan's school is only a few blocks away from Independence Hall and our apartment was only a few miles over the river, so it was pretty easy to visit some historic sites in Philly.
(Sometimes, looking back on these pictures, I can't believe how small Maria was!)
Even though we didn't know very much about the Liberty Bell before, we really enjoyed learning about the historical significance of the bell.
We didn't get a chance to take a tour through Independence Hall because of Maria, but we did walk around the back, found a bench, and fed Maria. It was so quiet and peaceful.
But of course, we can't take any peaceful moment seriously so we tried to take a family selfie...
We walked another block to Washington Square to see the tomb of the unknown soldier. The lives lost to attain freedom were so real to me then. All of Washington Square was previously a burial ground for soldiers. I felt extremely grateful for the sacrifices made centuries ago to give us a free nation today.
