Adventure #42: Adjusting to the East Coast

"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." - Jimmy Dean

August 2015

A few people from our ward came to help us move our things in to our new apartment (which by the way, was so nice!). Everything in the apartment was brand new and that was extremely comforting knowing that there weren't crazy germs for Maria there.

Our new ward was so friendly! So many people introduced themselves, exchanged numbers, and invited us to dinner. We got to know so many people so quickly! They were also excited to have a baby girl to admire, so I guess it was a good trade.  ;)
Our first Sunday. Yes, we matched on purpose. :)

We had a couple days to unpack boxes and then Jordan's orientation for school started. Even though his busy schedule was beginning, he always found time to bond with his baby girl. Usually while sleeping. lol  I could create an entire album of pictures like this...

Because we didn't have our kitchen unpacked we got to try out a few local diners (so yummy!). Even though we got lost half the time driving any where (don't you know it's like impossible to turn left in New Jersey?!?!?), we still loved our new home state.

There were only a few challenges during our first couple of weeks in New Jersey. First of all, poor Maria was constipated because of some new formula and we didn't have insurance or a doctor to take her to. We had to call our Pediatrician in Utah and ask for advice! After about a month she was having regular bowel movements. But man, it was a stressful month! I never thought that I would be so excited for poop! We are so glad that she is healthy!

The other challenge was related to the previous... health insurance. Ugh, just talking about it is just... ugh! It took four months of making daily phone calls, trips to Camden, and trying everything else to finally get health insurance. I can't complain now because we have it, but it was hard to stay positive with a newborn who couldn't see a doctor because we weren't covered.

Luckily Maria was such a happy baby. ALWAYS. She would make us laugh all the time with her cute little faces.

We got to housesit and enjoy the luxury of couches and tv. I also caught Maria chuckling in her sleep...

While housesitting, we got to take the dog out on walks every day. Maria loved it!

All in all, the positives far outweighed the negatives. We love New Jersey!
