June - July 2014
June went by so fast! Good thing I still took a few pictures. Okay, random thing first. I was walking home from work, and I saw this HUGE dandelion! I couldn't help myself so I took it home to Jordan.
This thing was almost the size of my head!
Sometime after that (like I said, June was a blur), we hiked up to the Y. Gosh, I had such a hard time with that hike! Jordan and I had been going to the gym everyday that week and I went running a few times so I was super sore before we started hiking. lol
One of the major events in the Brassell home during June was the World Cup! Jordan and I tried to have Colombian food while we watched every Colombian game.
This is Pollo Guisado and it was so yummy!!!
I LOVED watching the World Cup this year! Especially watching Colombia! They were so amazing to watch. I really don't want to talk about the game vs. Brazil. Let's just say tears were shed that day. :'(
The other major event during June was our short trip to California! We saw a lot of cool things, and a lot of weird things too.
We love driving by here and seeing the progress on the new Provo City Center Temple.
It was raining so hard! I don't think I've ever seen weather quite like that - especially while driving. Jordan had to slow down a lot.
Even though it was raining super hard, it didn't last very long. AND, we got to see a rainbow! I couldn't fit the whole thing in the picture, but we could see it end to end.
An hour or so into California we hit a huge mass of thick fog. It was so sudden and we seriously couldn't see more than ten feet.
So Jordan and I didn't leave Utah until about 7pm which meant we would make it to California at about 3am California time. The only problem was
The next day we slept in, picnicked at the beach, and went to the San Diego Padres game!
The beach was so pretty. I love going to La Jolla.
It was so nice to spend time with my family. I missed them all so much.
I think my mom missed me too. :)
Our family always plays games - no matter where we go. After we ate lunch we played around with the frisbee.
I love this picture. James was trying to show off his super powers.
After a while, the boys decided they needed more competition. So James and Rick (my cousin) would fight to catch the frisbee.
This time Rick won, and did an "In your face/I threw it on the ground" victory dance.
My lovely parents enjoying the beach.
Ryan (my little brother) is growing up! He's even taller than I am!
Okay, my mom would probably kill me for taking these photos, so she'll probably do worse now that I'm putting these online.
James, Jordan, Ryan, and Mom trying to keep the ball from hitting the ground.
James had FIFA fever and got creative.
I don't know why, but I just love this picture of all of us staring at the ball.
Rick and James - always making things interesting... and funny. Interestingly funny.
Brotherly love.
Jordan was exhausted from the drive but at least he got to rest for a little while.
James was having fun tailing mom during rush hour traffic in San Diego.
One item on my "married-life bucket list" was to take Jordan to a San Diego Padres game. Check!
I have so many great memories in the ballpark. We attended the Mormon Night game, so there were a ton of LDS people there at the game. It was also the night after the Tony Gwynn tribute game (his number 19 is still on the grass).
During the game, we went to grab some food and Jordan needed his special picture. This ballpark is so beautiful no matter where you are in the park
.
We also got lucky because after the game they had a firework show. It was really cool. They had video clips from famous baseball movies and then had fireworks go along to music from the baseball movies.
The boys: Jordan, Dad, James, Ryan, and Rick
Okay, this sounds really dumb, but something else that was great about this day was that I got to break in my new shoes. Sweet kicks, right?
The next day we just hung out at the house. We swam in the pool, played games, and watched the Colombia game (we made a Colombian dinner for my family). I realized I didn't take any pictures that day. But I guess it means that we were all just enjoying our time together. :)
Overall, our trip to California was so fun and relaxing. I'm so grateful for the sacrifices Jordan made to make the trip happen.
The Friday after we got back to Utah was the Fourth of July! We knew it might be our last July 4th in Provo, so we decided to make the most of it. We started the day by going fishing at sunrise. We didn't catch anything, but I still had a lot of fun.
Jordan looked so cute fishing ;)
There was a fish right in front of me! We could see him just sitting there! We tried so hard but he wouldn't bite. :(
It was pretty windy where we were and neither of us brought jackets, so we were really cold when we we finished fishing.
We came home and were so tired that we fell asleep. We were going to watch the parade (which pretty much just outside our apartment), but we slept through the whole thing! We did get to visit with Ashley and Austin that morning and then they came back to watch the Colombia game with us. Jordan's family came down to Provo that day and also watched the game with us. Like I said before, I really don't want to talk about this game.
Moving on, ahem. After the game we went with Jordan's family to a park and picnicked there. Shortly after that we headed to a rodeo in West Jordan. I hadn't been to a rodeo since I was a kid, so it was pretty fun. I think my favorite part was watching the little kids ride the sheep. At the same time it was also my least favorite part because watching them fall off and get run over was terrifying.
Do you see what I mean? Those poor little kids.
At the end of the rodeo there were two dirt bike stunt men that were pretty awesome.
After the rodeo, we went back to Provo. Our friends told us about this sweet spot to watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks. It was just right behind our old apartment. The spot was on a hill just south of the Provo Temple. The view was awesome! You could see from Spanish Fork to American Fork (basically the entire county). There were fireworks going off everywhere you looked! And then the Stadium of Fire firework show was amazing. The fireworks were so huge compared to the ones that were going off beforehand.
