“I'll fly on a plane and people will look out the window at thirty thousand feet and say, 'Isn't this view good enough for you?' And I say no, it's not good enough. I didn't earn it. In the mountains, I earn it.” - Mark Obmascik
July 23-27, 2014
Yes, we went to Colorado three times within seven months! This third visit was pretty epic. I'll start out with a little background.... Our friends Ashley and Austin are both from Colorado and invited us to go on a trip to Colorado at the end of July (Ashley and Austin are the same ones who invited us to the X Games in January). They also invited some other friends: Marcus and Lana (they also went to the X Games with us), and Kyle and Davita (new friends!).
We left Provo Wednesday afternoon and arrived in Glenwood Springs that evening. The next morning Austin made us breakfast burritos!
The boys also found other fun things to do after breakfast...
We had planned to go rafting that morning, but unfortunately it was raining. Luckily, a few hours later, the rain cleared up! So we grabbed our gear and headed for the river!
After our rafting adventure, we headed to Eagle, CO to do some grocery shopping before we went to the cabin in Fulford. We were so excited when we got to the cabin!
The next morning we got ready to hike New York Mountain. We took ATVs from the cabin to the trail head.
It had rained the day before and so there were a lot of mud puddles along the path back home. Once Jordan and I hopped on the ATV, it was Jordan's mission to hit every mud puddle he saw...
Then we hopped out and started hiking! After a few minutes we started feeling the altitude. The cabin was at about 10,000 ft elevation and the mountain peak was about 12,000 ft elevation. I had a really hard time with the elevation. Jordan was so sweet and hiked slowly with me.
Despite the altitude, we finally made it to the top!
The view was spectacular! We were above the tree line and we were surrounded by beautiful grass and wildflowers. It looked exactly like the Sound of Music! I just had to do this for my mom...
I've also always wanted to sing on top of a mountain, so I sang a few more songs. ha ha
Then we ate lunch at the trail head and headed back to the cabin. After we hung out for a while, we grabbed some guns and went to a meadow to go shooting.
On the way back, Jordan hit a HUGE puddle. He got a little mud on his shoes, and I got a lot of mud all over me. You can't see it in the picture, but I also had large mud spots take up the backside of my thighs.
That night we had an awesome dinner thanks to Lana and then we just did random stuff.
Once the sun set, we roasted marshmallows and Austin hopped out of the bushes wearing a gorilla costume to scare us. We had lots of laughs around the campfire. But the night wasn't over yet! At midnight we took the ATVs out for a midnight run. Each couple stopped somewhere off the trail so we could sit in the darkness alone. Jordan and I looked at the stars for a little while, but were scared and left to find Marcus and Lana. We felt safer together and even safer when we got back to the cabin.
The next day we took it easy... except for when we went exploring with Marcus and Lana. We took our ATVs up to a trail we had never been on before. It was so much fun!!!

We found another huge puddle, but Jordan felt bad for getting me muddy before, so we went through it super slow. That is, until on our way back when I told him it was okay to go through the puddle as fast as he wanted. I wish we had a video of it! We hit the puddle at the perfect speed. The water/mud sprayed up around us, but we didn't get wet at all! We told Marcus and Lana what happened and told them they should do it with us. So we turned around and hit the puddle again...
only this time we did get pretty wet! Thankfully it wasn't very much mud, just dirty water. Lana and Marcus followed...
and they got even more wet!
Exploring was fun, but unfortunately we had to go back to the cabin to pack. We cleaned, packed, and headed down the mountain. Jordan and I took one of the ATVs down to a trailer. That last ATV ride was beautiful. This trip made Jordan and I want to get an ATV someday.
We also took some more pictures before we left.
We drove back to Glenwood Springs and made some homemade pizza and chilled in the jacuzzi. It was much needed after hiking and ATVing. The next morning we hit the road to go back to Provo. It was an awesome trip. We only wish it could have been longer. :)

Left to Right: Austin, Davita, Kyle, and Jordan

The boys each took turns showing off on the tramp.
Marcus and Jordan just couldn't resist. It was Battlefront!

The girls. <3
This is right before we pushed off into the river.
Kyle and Davita
Me and Jordan
Marcus and Lana
Ashley and Austin. So cute!
The boys were bouncing the raft so much I dropped the camera!
We made it! The last part of our rafting trip was in the Colorado River. So behind us is the Colorado River.
After our rafting adventure, we headed to Eagle, CO to do some grocery shopping before we went to the cabin in Fulford. We were so excited when we got to the cabin!
Ain't it cute?

He's still so happy even when he's staying behind with me.
We eventually caught up with the rest of the group.
Despite the altitude, we finally made it to the top!
We do that thing with our hands for a lot of pictures. I have no idea why. lol

I forgot to mention we had a seed spitting contest. lol
This meadow was just gorgeous.
Austin laying down the law.
Lana looking awesome.
Introducing: Jordan, the mobster.
On the way back, Jordan hit a HUGE puddle. He got a little mud on his shoes, and I got a lot of mud all over me. You can't see it in the picture, but I also had large mud spots take up the backside of my thighs.
I didn't think getting muddy could be so much fun. ha ha
That night we had an awesome dinner thanks to Lana and then we just did random stuff.
Jordan also learned how to ride a dirt bike. :)
We also had a horseshoe tournament. I love this picture. The horseshoe slipped out of Austin's hands and only went about a foot. Jordan of course jumped up and pointed it out to everyone.
Jordan felt on top of the world after Austin's slipup.
While it may seem like I have good form, it profited us nothing. Jordan and I placed fourth...
meaning last place. lol

All ready to go exploring!

Don't we look so awesome with these helmets?
We found another awesome view. :)
Love these two SO much.

What a fun group of people. :)
I'm so glad Davita had a nice camera and knew how to use it!
The pose!
Jordan helped put the ATV on the trailer. He really is a great driver.
Lana, me, and Ashley. I'm so glad we all met in our Wymount ward just a few weeks after we were all married. Friends for life.
We drove back to Glenwood Springs and made some homemade pizza and chilled in the jacuzzi. It was much needed after hiking and ATVing. The next morning we hit the road to go back to Provo. It was an awesome trip. We only wish it could have been longer. :)

Oh, I'm jealous- that looks like so much fun. It looks like you guys have a good group of friends too. I have haven't be rafting in FOREVER. Your video made me miss it. And the ATVs, just looks like a perfect weekend. I totally would have done the Sound of Music replay too- it would have sounded less like Julie Andrews and more like a dying peacock. :)
