"Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts." - Unknown
July 2015
Our hospital stay was so much more enjoyable than we expected. The nursing staff were so kind and helpful. Our room was large and accommodating. Here are some pictures from our room:
Of course Jurassic Park was ready to read whenever we wanted. :)
The first night was long, but that was expected with a brand new baby. I actually couldn't sleep because I just wanted to watch Maria sleep. Jordan slept no problem. He had been more nervous than I was during the delivery and was completely exhausted.
I just couldn't stop staring!!!
So in the middle of the night on our first night, Maria had her first messy diaper (yay!). Unfortunately I couldn't stand up so Jordan had to get up and change it. I was laughing so hard watching him. His eyes were barely open and he used about 20 wet wipes because he could hardly see what he was doing. haha It was one of my fondest memories from the hospital. :)
Poor guy... haha
The next morning Maria had her first bath! Again, I couldn't walk so Jordan went with the nurse to bathe her. Jordan says that Maria's happiness was directly correlated with her warmth. She was calm and collected so long as she was warm, even when the nurse thought that she might cry during certain portions of the bath when most babies cry. Maria is just like her mommy. I guess she got my California blood. ;)
Even though it was a while after the Fourth of July, the nurses stuck some patriotic bows on her head. We didn't mind at all. I mean, look at her. There is nothing that could stop that cuteness!
Half of our time in the hospital consisted of me and Jordan watching and admiring our baby while she slept... :)
Another highlight from our hospital stay was watching Maria make faces. The following pictures were taken literally seconds apart. I was just continuously snapping pictures while watching her.
Confused
Happy!
Sad
It wasn't until months later when we looked back on these photos and realized how tiny she was. Now we know why everyone thought she was a premie. haha She is our tiny bucket of joy.
This is me finally enjoying sleep without heartburn!
Our families were so nice to us. We even got to open a few gifts while in the hospital. These are some San Diego Padre onesies from my brother, James. :)
Just excuse my weird face... lol
You probably noticed my giant meal. This is what every meal was like. It was awesome! And 90% of it tasted VERY good. 10% was just "good." There was always so much food that Jordan would have to finish it for me.
We just loved having so much family being able to visit us while we were in the hospital! :)
My cousin Mandi and my Aunt Chris
My Grandpa Bassett (my dad's dad)
Our female four generations picture. Maria, me, my mom, and my mom's mom (my grandmother)
Our little family with Jordan's dad. Jordan's mom was in Arizona waiting for grandchild #6 to arrive!
Maria and her great-grandmother. :)
Being in the hospital was so incredible because it was the first few days we were able to spend with our sweet baby. And Maria was just absolutely perfect. She maybe cried for 10 minutes the whole time we were in the hospital, and I'm not exaggerating. She just let us pass her around and take pictures pretty much nonstop. Such a sweetie.
Another cool experience we had in the hospital was when we were able to take the sacrament on Sunday. We were so grateful to have a nice couple come and give us a spiritual thought. Then the husband and Jordan blessed and administered the sacrament. It was so uplifting so think about the Savior and how he has blessed us with an eternal family.
Walking out to the car, finally going home! Side note, we barely made it out of the hospital in time for our "deadline." I'm talking minutes to spare, but we just couldn't take our eyes of Maria.
