Adventure #39: Maria's Blessing Day

"A precious baby girl,
The Lord has blessed us with
Sent down to us from heaven,
God's precious little gift
We pray we'll know God's leading
As we raise this precious life,
So she will come to know the Lord
And walk with Jesus Christ."

In our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we typically bless our newborn babies to give them a name and blessing. Priesthood holders stand in a circle, hold the baby in their hands, and one priesthood holder gives the blessing. Because Jordan is a worthy priesthood holder, he was able to give the blessing. It was both beautiful and powerful. Some of the things he blessed her with were to always seek guidance from the Lord and to have humility so that she will be open to Heavenly Father's guidance.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from that day:

Maria was blessed in the same blessing dress that I was blessed in as a baby. My Grandma Bassett, who passed away nearly four years before Maria's blessing, made this dress. It was a great way to remember her and to have her present that day.  :)

Maria with two of her cousins, Caity and William

All the family who attended the blessing.  :)

Jordan's brother, John and his family (minus Mary and her newborn Matthew, who was born just two days after Maria)

Maria's blessing day was also our last Sunday in Utah. We were so thankful to be a part of a great ward and to have such a kind bishop. Blessing Maria was the perfect goodbye to a lot of our friends and family.
