Adventure #38: The First Week of Parenthood

"Babies are always more trouble than you thought - and more wonderful." - Charles Osgood

July 2015

We made it home! And my family was so sweet and decorated our apartment for us.  :)

As soon as we made it inside, I guess we just dropped everything. Exhaustion was an understatement. We seriously gained an entirely new level of respect for our parents. Parents are amazing!!!

Basically our week contained hours of packing for our move, obsessing over Maria, and visiting with friends and family.

Maria had a little bit of jaundice, but it cleared up by the end of the week. She also wasn't gaining enough weight (she lost 9 oz within three days after she was born). She was only 6 lbs 9 oz to start with, so she didn't have much more weight she could lose. We called the doctor and started to give her some formula to supplement. She did much better after we started the formula.

I could have spent an eternity just letting her sleep on my chest.  :)

My dad snapped this adorable picture of Maria's grin.

Then my mom got this gorgeous shot.

It was truly special seeing my family members holding our new baby.

I love this picture because it captures so many memories. The packed boxes, smoothies from Tropical Smoothie, my elephant ankles, playing games with family, and lastly, James using Maria as a table for his cards. haha

Attitude! lol Another picture my dad got.

My parents were ridiculously helpful during the entire week. They were the ones who packed the majority of our stuff, and they would take care of Maria so that we could take a nap or two during the day. We honestly couldn't have gotten through that week without them. Here's a video my mom and dad took while admiring Maria sleeping...

We couldn't go through our first week with Maria without dressing her up in some Colombian gear! I gave Jordan that bow for Father's Day and Jordan of course already had the jersey. She was so cute in that yellow, blue and red!

One of my favorite sights. I could probably create a whole album with pictures like this.  :)
