"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices." - Harry S. Truman

Jordan had spring break for the first time in his college career!!! We made the most of it by taking a two day trip down to D.C. It was a blast! It was our first overnight trip with just our little family. Maria was amazing the whole time as we dragged her around the National Mall. Our first stop was the Jefferson Monument. It is so much larger in person! We had so much fun reading everything on the walls and in the mini museum they have underneath the monument.
My favorite part of this next picture is the fact that it looks like Maria is waving. :)
This little princess got to ride in the stroller a LOT. And this was the first time we had her in the seat instead of clicking in the car seat. So naturally, being the princess she is, she always had her feet resting on the cup holder.
Our next stop was the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. I don't even know how much of the museum we were able to cover, but there is so much to see! Maria's favorite part was seeing all of the animals.
We laughed as we watched Maria try to talk to all the animals.
I love that husband of mine. And I love that he can always make me laugh.
We were pretty tired after walking around for so long so we took a break by the Washington Monument. Maria wasn't too thrilled about us taking pictures of her, but was much happier when we gave her a bottle.
While we enjoyed our break, Jordan spotted a bunch of college mascots taking pictures for an upcoming tournament. And of course, we HAD to get our picture with the UVA mascot.
Once we had enough stamina, we took the long uphill walk to the White House.
We walked back down towards the WWII Memorial and made it just in time to watch the sun set over the Lincoln Monument.
Quite honestly, this was our favorite part of our first day. Jordan and I have a deep admiration for WWII and have watched countless documentaries about it. We are so grateful for the many lives sacrificed for us.
The Washington Monument was also so beautiful during sunset.
We took a lot of selfies. Sorry...
Love this:
That night we stayed at a hotel. Didn't get much sleep thanks to little chunkers, but we were ready for another day of D.C. We started off our second day at the Holocaust Memorial Museum. We got there before it opened because the tickets go out fast! The museum was incredible! I wish we could have spent more time looking at every exhibit and reading all of the stories, but we had to keep a quicker pace with Maria. Stepping inside a boxcar from one of the trains used to transport people to concentration camps was a chilling experience. Imagining the pain and horror that happened inside the boxcar was heartbreaking. And walking through a barrack that was recreated with original materials was also difficult. They had so many artifacts from the camps that everything just felt more real than ever before. At the end of the museum they had a room that focused on similar events that are happening in our day. I didn't even know about those events going on, but I feel much more aware now.
After the Holocaust Museum we walked back up to the Smithsonians. We walked through a beautiful garden behind the Smithsonian castle. A lot of the flowers were just barely blooming and it was gorgeous!
We then walked around the Air and Space museum. I felt like I learned so much! And again, I'm continually amazed at all of the artifacts they have here! We also saw the cutest astronaut baby outfits! Maria was asleep, so we didn't try any on. lol
We really loved our trip to D.C. and we already have plans to visit again. It was impossible to see everything on our first trip, so we are anxious to go back and see more!
